MBUBE’S STORY

Mbube’s story begins long before his first race. In 2024, a little known man by the name of Glenn Hunter went to the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale with 2 colts picked out from his shortlist. The first was a colt by first season sire - Acrobat, the second - a colt by established sire Rubick out of the dam Magnus Scandimania.

Glenn was nervous. He had never purchased a racehorse before and when the Acrobat colt went through the ring, fear crept in. He didn’t bid and the colt sold to Willow Park Stud for $10k. (That colt went on to sell for $130k as a yearling!) - Now named “The Local.”

He left the sale that day disappointed with himself, but with a determination to bid on the Rubick colt the next day.

Glenn knew his stuff. He’d been studying breeding for years.

The the horse went through the ring unwanted by anyone.

With one confident bid, Glenn purchased the Rubick colt for $1,500 - a moment in time that he will never forget.

WHY WE SELECTED HIM

Graphic showing DNA strands representing evidence‑based pedigree analysis for Mbube.

The Rubick colt (now named Mbube) was identified early as a colt with the right combination of pedigree architecture, physical balance and mental profile to progress into his 3YO season. His selection was based on:

  • Structural pedigree alignment with successful sprinter‑miler profiles

  • Predictive genetic markers seen in elite and commercial performers

  • Balanced physical type suited to gradual development

  • Temperament indicators consistent with long‑term improvement

This was not a speculative selection — it was a pattern‑based decision supported by evidence.

MBUBE’S PEDIGREE PROFILE

This was what Glenn analysed intently!

Without this pedigree, Mbube is “just another horse”. His pedigree combines speed, precocity and structural reinforcement through Rubick’s sireline. The female family contributes balance and athleticism, producing a colt with the right genetic architecture for sustained 3YO progression.

Key pedigree notes:

  • Rubick influence: early speed + physical strength

  • Damline adds balance and athleticism

  • Reinforced structural patterns seen in commercial sprinter‑milers

  • Predictive markers present in elite performers

  • Clean, efficient action

  • Strength developing with age
