Signature Beginnings: The Rubick Colt

Every good story starts with a bit of instinct — and this one began before Signature Pedigrees even had a name.

At the 2022 Great Southern Sale, I spotted a colt by Rubick who was overlooked by most. He wasn’t the flashiest on the complex, but he had the right pedigree structure, balance and attitude to suggest there was more beneath the surface. I trusted that instinct and purchased him for just $1,500.

Less than a year later, that same colt walked through the ring at the Adelaide Yearling Sale, where he sold for $22,500 — a tidy return that validated my assessment of his potential.

Fast forward to now: that very colt has just sold as a 2-year-old for $300,000.

“He’s probably the best 2-year-old I’ve got in the stable and if I’ve got that sort of intel, why would I let him go elsewhere. Of the 25 we have this year, he’s head and shoulders above, from what I've seen so far, but that's got to replicate into a race now.” Lloyd Kennewell

It’s a reminder of what sharp pedigree analysis, a trained eye, and belief in your process can uncover — genuine value hiding in plain sight.

These early successes were the foundation for Signature Pedigrees — and the reason I believe that every pedigree tells a story worth studying closely.
